I got my start in the promotional products industry while still in high school, and I never really left. Through college at UNL, years studying how businesses build engagement at Gallup, and a stint in e-commerce brand acquisition in Boston, I kept running into the same gap. Companies could put their brand on bags, jackets, hats, pens, and water bottles with full creative control. But shoes were always the exception.
The best most vendors could offer was an embroidered logo on a tongue. Maybe a small patch near the heel. Three color options if you were lucky. Your brand was always secondary to somebody else's product design, and that bothered me enough to do something about it. Nobody in the promotional products space was solving this, so I decided to build the solution myself.
That became Shoe Zero in February 2021. What started as a fix for one gap in the promotional products industry has grown into a full custom footwear operation serving corporate buyers, independent designers, and individuals worldwide. The work still comes down to the same principle I started with. If you can design it, we can print it on a shoe.
My last name is Shiu, pronounced exactly like the word "shoe." I did not plan to build a shoe company. But solving a problem that the industry ignored for decades turned out to be the right thing to spend my time on.
